Whether polar icebreaker, dive support vessel, luxurious yacht, or nimble sailing craft, EYOS will guide you to the best expedition yacht for your charter. In this ongoing series, we ask what makes the yachts we regularly work with so special.

Scintilla Maris is the latest addition to the EYOS fleet. She draws on her history as a fishing trawler for rugged capabilities in a new era as an expedition vessel. Following a multi-year redesign, she is now ready to explore the northern waters of Svalbard, Greenland, and Norway.

  • Expedition Heritage, All-New Design

Scintilla Maris (translating from Latin as “the spark of the sea”) is a brand-new 46m expedition yacht built on the recycled hull of a classic DAMEN trawler design.  The team at the Damen Maaskant yard in Stellendam took her sturdy and capable hull to transform her from the inside out, utilizing its commercial and fishing shipbuilding experience to equip the yacht for expeditions. The result is a brand-new build ready to explore the high latitudes of Svalbard, Greenland, and Norway.

  • Boutique Interiors

The yacht’s interior, by Dutch studio Vripack, features luxurious, boutique hotel-inspired interiors with a contemporary, loft-like feel incorporating skylights, portholes, curved white feature walls, and a contrasting bold color scheme of reds, greens, and yellows. The design allows for elegance and comfort even in the most remote destinations.

  • Eco-Friendly Design

With hybrid-electric propulsion and advanced navigation systems, Scintilla Maris is extremely fuel-efficient and almost vibration-free. Innovative additions like her heated outdoor seating that uses recycled cooling from the generators mean that she sets a new standard in eco-friendly design.

  • Expedition Pedigree

Scintilla Maris was purpose-built with one goal in mind: exploration. Her 154,000-liter fuel tankage gives her an extraordinary 9,000 nautical miles at a steady cruising speed of 9 knots. She also boasts spacious outdoor decks, a totally open bridge that flows into one of the lounges, and twin water-level boarding areas, one for each side of the vessel. There is even a dramatic observation area, perched 12 meters above the waterline. At the heart of her expedition pedigree will be the support from the EYOS shoreside team and expedition guides onboard every charter to help bring the destination alive.
