Whether polar icebreaker, dive support vessel, luxurious yacht, or nimble sailing craft, EYOS will guide you to the best expedition yacht for your charter. In this ongoing series, we ask what makes the yachts we regularly work with so special.

Once a rugged salvage tug, Asteria has been transformed into a refined expedition yacht, combining the soul of exploration with the comfort of luxury. With her rugged hull and go-anywhere capability, she’s at home navigating the polar extremes just as easily as she is anchored off a remote Pacific atoll. For EYOS, Asteria represents the embodiment of purposeful travel: a vessel that allows guests to venture farther with the guidance of the world’s leading expedition team.

The vessel is equipped with two Zodiacs, 2 jet skis, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, a dive locker and all the gear you require for enjoying the remote bodies of water she can safely navigate.  As a former salvage tug, Asteria was built for strength and reliability, as well as fuel efficiency. Her hull is sturdy enough to ply Antarctica’s icy waters with confidence.

The sun deck is a wonderful viewing platform with comfy cushions and a jacuzzi for fully relaxing amid the gorgeous scenery of the places she visits.  The bow and bridge are always open to guests for a different perspective or a chat with the officers. Asteria is perfect for those who are seeking a yacht with a casual and easy-going atmosphere and a spirit of adventure.

“Asteria is a true explorer yacht converted from her earlier pedigree as a deep-sea salvage tug. You can tell just by looking at her that she’s designed to take on the world’s oceans – she has a tall bow, a strong funnel, and looks the part. However, she has great features like beautiful open decks that make her incredibly comfortable for viewing the landscape.

I’ve always loved Asteria’s stern, which has a hybrid lounge– an indoor/outdoor space that invites you to linger, whether you’re curled up with a book while icebergs drift past or sharing a sundowner with the mountains in the distance. And all the way at the top of the yacht, overlooking the prow, there’s a jacuzzi where you can watch the passing scenery in comfort. All in all, it makes for an utterly surreal experience in the polar latitudes.
